Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) Instructions

To ensure that the SIUC research community is compliant with the various regulations that govern federally-funded research and researchers are appropriately informed of these regulations, the Office of Research Compliance offers online training in the following six areas:

  • Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR)
  • Human Subjects Research (IRB)
  • Laboratory Animal Welfare (IACUC)
  • Conflicts of Interest (FCOI)
  • Export Controls
  • Biosafety/Biosecurity

  1. All individuals working with or providing care to vertebrate animals and cephalopods must complete the following CITI modules: (1) Working with the IACUC, (2)
    Reducing Pain and Distress in Laboratory Mice and Rats, and (3) SIUC Animal Care. A surgery module must be completed if performing surgery. Additional taxa
    specific modules may be required.

  2. 2. Once expired, individuals need only take the single refresher course titled: Working with Animals in Biomedical Research - Refresher Course.
    3. For the purpose of this regulation, "Investigators" refers to all PD/PI and any other person regardless of title or position, who is responsible for the design, conduct,
    or reporting of the funded research, including subgrantees, contractors, consortium participants, collaborators, or consultants. PIs are responsible for ensuring all
    required personnel on their grant who must take FCOI training have done so. COI and RCR training requirments may vary by funding agency.
    *NIH requires some in-person training for Responsible Conduct of Research. Additional information is availableon the Office of Research Compliance website.
