The Office of Research Compliance is dedicated to supporting the training needs of the SIUC Research Community. We offer online and personalized in-class instruction on the ethics, history, and regulations that govern research. Training is available on the following topics:

Training Requirements
Federal regulations and granting agencies often mandate specific training. To learn more about required trainings by research area and where to access each training, review required training by topic.
Online TrainingOnline training allows researchers to complete required modules at their convenience. To access the appropriate training module, please refer to the CITI Training Instructions.
Personalized Instruction
In addition to online training, we offer personalized instruction tailored to the specific needs of your class, lab group, or unit, including customized training for in-person, online asynchronous, and online synchronous courses. Popular topics include the history of human subjects ethics, ethics in research, and IRB 101. To arrange a session for your class, lab group, or department/school, email orc@siu.edu.
CITI Training Instructions
Follow the steps below to access your CITI account and enroll in the required training.
- Go to the CITI Program Website
Visit the CITI Program website and select “Log In” in the upper-right corner. - Log in Through Your Institution
Select “Log in through my organization.” Search for and select Southern Illinois University Carbondale from the list of participating institutions. - Sign in with SIUC Credentials
Log in using your SIUC Single Sign-On (SSO) credentials (the same username and password used for other SIUC systems).- New users: If you do not yet have a CITI account, you will be prompted to create one after signing in through SSO. Follow the prompts to complete your account setup.
- Existing users: If you already have a CITI account, you may be prompted the first time you use SSO to link your existing CITI account. This step only needs to be completed once.
- Select the Appropriate Training Course
After logging in, you will be asked to select training modules. Choose the course you need (for example, Social & Behavioral Research basic/refresher). Existing users can add courses by navigating to the "my courses" page and selecting "learner tools."
